“A person’s worth is measured by the worth of what they value.”
~ Marcus Aurelius
When does never being “enough” become a trap? Does failing to acknowledge the achievements and hard work of the present moment keep you ensnared in feelings of inadequacy and beholden to a mythical future that never seems to arrive? This mindset may drive you to keep learning and pushing forward (both admirable qualities), but at some point, it becomes exhausting and self-defeating. On the flipside, being “enough” is not synonymous with sitting on your laurels, becoming complacent and embracing laziness (an ever-present fear of high achievers). Instead, being “enough” can be a chance to take an honest inventory of who you are; to assess your values, knowledge, hard skills and oft underestimated soft skills. An opportunity to see how well you know and respect yourself. An occasion to step off the treadmill of constantly trying to satisfy external expectations and inner critics.
Imagine saying out loud:
I am “enough”.
I know who I am.
I know and respect what I have achieved.
Can you see this simple phrase, “I am enough”, as providing both a foundation and a springboard? A grounding in the present that resonates with understanding, non-judgment, respect and calm, coupled with a launch into the future characterized by curiosity, confidence and excitement.
