Our personal Board of Inspiration dramatically influences our perspective, our imagination, our enthusiasm and ultimately our life trajectory. This Board needs to be carefully curated and regularly updated. Like any Board complacency, dullness and predictability can set in. If we choose to spend our time with people who don’t inspire us, we miss out on revelation, originality, surprise and encouragement.
Here is an example of my Board (recently revised):
- Yvon Chouinard- Climber and founder of Patagonia. “We choose to believe that the granite is alive. If life is movement, then rock – with its atoms flying around like stars in cosmos – is alive.”
- Jacqueline Novogratz – Founder and CEO of Acumen. “What we yearn for as human beings is to be visible to each other.”
- Rick Rubin – Record executive and record producer. “The real work of the artist is a way of being in the world.”
- Jay Shetty – Former monk, podcaster, author and life coach – “If you can build a muscle, you can build a mindset.”
- David Whyte – Anglo-Irish poet – “The marvelous thing about a good question is that it shapes our identity as much by the asking as it does by the answering.”
